Eagle Labs CEA webinar

The latest Barclays Eagle Labs webinar, this time looking at ‘The role of CEA in the sustainability of the agriculture sector’, is being held in this month.

As the Fourth Industrial Revolution is bringing exciting opportunities for farmers to increase productivity, protect the environment and make farming safer, interest in CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture) is expanding. The most advanced form of commercial CEA, using hydroponics and aeroponics, enables farmers and growers to meticulously manage inputs in order to maximise crop quality and yields.

CEA allows growers to circumvent and minimise factors such as seasonal, and unpredictable weather. At the same time, it is seen as a means of encouraging environmentally friendly food production system, which can provide a year-round high quality crop that is traceable throughout the supply chain.

In the UK, the CEA is growing in importance within this important sector, which employs almost 4 million people and is larger than the automotive and aerospace sectors combined. Agri-tech companies are already working closely with UK farmers, using technology, particularly robotics and AI, to help create new technologies and herald new innovations. This is a truly exciting time for the industry as there is a growing recognition that the significant challenges facing global agriculture represent unique opportunities for innovation, investment and commercial growth.

The free CEA webinar will be held on 18th November at 6pm GMT. It will be led by Eagle Labs Agri-Tech Programme Manager Wendy Hewitson, who will present an overview of the Eagle Labs and the AgriTech Programme. Then CHAP Innovation Sector Lead Richard Glass and Liberty Produce Commercial Director Alexander Giles will dive deeper into CEA and how you it can be used to benefit UK agriculture.
