Future Food Production Systems

Innovate UK has launched the  ISCF – Future Food Production Systems funding call.

If you look through the KTN’s ‘Pre-competitive vision for the UK’s plant and crop sector’, the UK-RAS white paper on ‘The Future of Robotic Agriculture’, or the NFU’s ‘Future of Food 2040’, they are all ubiquitous in acknowledging the prominent threats to and from traditional land-based agriculture.

It is clear that the UK farming industry will have to undergo significant and far-reaching changes to survive and thrive in the future.

It is predicted that 60 percent more food will be needed worldwide by 2050 to feed the increasing global population. To do this, we need to be able to produce resilient and sustainable food more efficiently. This will reduce emissions and pollution, minimise waste and improve soil.

There is a need to embrace technology in engineering systems solutions for a sustainable, productive and resilient agricultural sector.

It is with this mindset that Innovate UK has launched ISCF – Future Food Production Systems funding call. The £20million call closes on 22nd January 2020.
