European Commission calls for feedback on Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive

The European Commission is currently inviting feedback on the proposal to update Directive 2009/128/EC, the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive (SUD).

The SUD was adopted in 2009 with the aim of reducing the risk and impacts of the use of pesticides on human health and the environment.

The European Green Deal and Farm to Fork Strategy were recently published by the Commission, with proposals to establish specific targets to reduce the use and risk of synthetic pesticides by 2030.

The Commission has evidence that the SUD has not sufficiently achieved its overall objective, so is assessing the impacts of possible future measures.

The Commission is also aware of growing societal concerns over the use of pesticides. For more information go to Have Your Say
