Big Data gets people talking at IAgrE Conference

The Institute of  Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) Landwards Conference 2019 took place on October 30th at the East of England Conference Centre in Peterborough.

Linsey Cresswell , CHAP Commercial Director, attended along with representatives from our partners at Fera and Cranfield University, and fellow Agri-Tech Centres Agrimetrics and Agri-Epi.

IAgrE President Professor Jane Rickson opened the conference asking “Can Big data lead to smarter farming?” CHAP member Hummingbird Technologies also presented, with Arthur Soames speaking about “harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to help farmers make more informed decisions”.

Rob Simmons from Cranfield University showcased the power of the university’s Soil Management Information system (SIMS).

There was much discussion during the conference about the trust in placing your data in someone else hands. There was also discussion on Big Data versus “appropriate data” for specific crops, for example data on celeriac is not as big as data for wheat.
