CHAP welcomes new Member Director to Board

Crop Health and Protection is delighted to announce the election of Martin Evans to Member Director of the CHAP Board.

As confirmed at a recent Annual General Meeting, Martin succeeds Charlie Whitmarsh of Frontier, who has served in this capacity since CHAP’s inception.

Charlie has played a significant role in establishing CHAP’s foundations, being a passionate and committed Member Director for five consecutive years. During that time, he chaired the Remuneration Committee, bringing a wealth of industry and sector experience.

CHAP CEO Fraser Black said: “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Charlie and look forward to his continued input through our Advisory Group meetings.

“Member Directors are important in providing independent governance on issues such as strategy, performance and resources. We look forward to working alongside Martin and benefitting from his knowledge.”

Experienced in such roles, Martin has held positions on the AHDB Horticulture Board, Vegetable Panel and the Food Innovation Network. He is currently on the Board at Stockbridge Technology Centre and is CEO of Fresh Growers Ltd.

Martin will provide further enrichment to the executive, technical, market and practical knowledge established within the CHAP Board.

Commenting on his election, Martin said: “Improving sustainable productivity within the food chain through applied science is something that I am extremely passionate about.

“CHAP’s values are highly synergistic with this, so I look forward to working with fellow board members, the executive, partners and wider stakeholders to help bring this to reality.”

The board and executive also extend gratitude to Dr Andrew Swift of Fera, who recently stepped down from his position on the board. Andrew helped to champion the formation and development of CHAP from the outset, as well as taking an interim role as CEO during its creation.

His knowledge has helped CHAP to navigate key Government departments, acting as  a valued and active board member.

CHAP Chairman, Peter Quinn, said: “We have much to be thankful for from the tremendous contributions of both Charlie and Andrew as Member Directors during our early formation and successful establishment.

“Our success is as a result of their active support, enterprise and enthusiasm, enabling CHAP to bring change within the industry through accelerating innovation.

“Their legacy will continue with the ever-growing and realisable ambition of CHAP to make UK agri-tech world-class, and bring sustainability and resilience to our food systems.”
