Agri-EPI launches Smart Farm in Paraguay

The visit centred around the launch of Agri-EPI’s Paraguay Satellite Demonstration Farm, a pilot monitoring test facility that aims to showcase and validate cutting edge British technologies that have the potential to significantly improve agricultural productivity, profitability and sustainability, providing valuable benefits for farming systems in Paraguay and other countries in the region.

As well as Hadyn, who represents all four UK Agri-Tech Centres, the UK delegation, included Agri-EPI’s Duncan Forbes and Karina Maksimiuk, and Jack Ellis-Williams from CHAP member Hummingbird Technologies.

Paraguyan media outlet ABC Color covered the event and quoted Hadyn, saying: “We chose Paraguay to implement this technology because we were betting on a market that had a great reach in agriculture, and across the region through the Mercosur free-trade bloc with Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. We saw opportunities to improve agricultural sustainability with innovative technology.”

Paraguay’s economy is underpinned by agriculture. It exports beef, soybean, wheat, maize and rice. However, the country has recognised the need to be more efficient, environmentally conscious and increase its value addition, so further collaborations are expected in the future.
