CHAP board member Hannah Senior has been announced as a 2020 Nuffield Scholar.
CHAP board member Hannah Senior has been announced as a 2020 Nuffield Scholar.
Nuffield award around 20 individuals each year, giving them the opportunity to research topics of interest in farming, food, horticulture or rural sectors. Scholars are able to travel anywhere in the world, visiting one or more countries in order to further knowledge and understanding, with a view to advancing their respective industries.
In this recent opinion piece posted on the CHAP website, Hannah outlines why entrepreneurs are vital in agriculture: “…agriculture desperately needs to attract new blood. The average age of UK farmers – 59 – shows just how much young people have turned away from this sector. Entrepreneurship could help to reverse this.”
Hannah will be investigating how the industry can accelerate agri-tech entrepreneurs. Hannah, an agri-tech entrepreneur herself, is CEO of PBS International, a pollination control products business and passionate about bringing change to agriculture through entrepreneurship. She mentors several start-ups and has also recently been invited to join New Zealand accelerator firm Sprout.
