CHAP’s Innovation Team has been undertaking a collaborative innovation programme within the controlled environment agriculture (CEA) sector.
The collaboration, which involves several relevant parties, focuses on ‘upscaling CEA’ and ultimately developing a business case for CHAP, to deliver solutions that support the sector in this area.
The first virtual workshop in April was a success, attracting 20 stakeholders from across the CEA sector and generating a number of ideas.
The aim is to solve the problem that a number of key sector barriers, and a lack of cross-sector integration and enabling infrastructure, are preventing CEA from fulfilling its potential to supply the UK food system with diverse, sustainable and affordable food, with maximum carbon neutrality.
CHAP hosted a second virtual workshop on 18th May, within which they worked with a broad and representative group of stakeholders to shortlist, develop and appraise a range of ideas, deciding upon three options that will form the basis for a business case to be developed over the coming months.
