This is due to start in 2021 and run for seven years.

This will give farmers greater flexibility to plan for their future as these payments will be able to be used by farmers to invest in their business, diversify their activities or help new people enter the sector.

This is known as The Environment Land Management (ELM) scheme

Through looking at Soil health as a whole the speakers will be discussing how farming using soil health principles and systems that include no-till, cover cropping and diverse rotations.

More and more farmers are actually increasing their soil’s organic matter and improving microbial activity through assessing soil health.

This will result in farmers sequestering more carbon, increasing water infiltration, improving wildlife and pollinator habitat—all while harvesting better profits and often better yields.

Speaker one – Rob Ward, Commercial Director at P.E.S. Technologies, who will speak about ‘’the soil health sensor system PesTechnologies are developing, including its potential future capabilities”

Speaker two – Freddie Reed is Projects and Technical Manager for Agri-EPI Centre. A mechanical engineering graduate with farming background, Freddie is responsible for identifying ground-breaking new agricultural technologies and initiating projects with industry and academia on Agri-EPI’s Satellite Farm Network

‘How sensors and testing have the potential to help farmers improve soil health’

Technology has the potential to help us understand much more about what is going on in our soil. The more we understand the more important we realise our soil is for both environmental sustainability and productivity. Freddie will speak about what sensors, tests and technologies are coming over the horizon to help farmers improve their soil health and what the Agri-EPI Satellite Farm Network are doing in this important space.
