UK-Canada TFP collaborative R&D bilateral funding call

Dr Aurélie Bovi from CHAP’s Innovation team attended a briefing event on February 13th, organised by the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) to provide information and specific detailed requirements on the new UK-Canada bilateral funding competition.

Innovate UK and the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) are running a joint funding competition, which opened on January 27th, to support collaborative R&D projects. Up to £2 million is available for UK business applicants (C$3.5 m). The maximum funding (grant claimed) to be shared between all UK partners in a single consortium is £400,000 per application (C$700,000). Full competition details can be found on the Information Funding Service website.

This call is part of the Transforming Food Production (TFP) challenge. Projects must target improvement to the productivity and sustainability of agriculture production systems – in crop, livestock and aquaculture; and must deliver integrated precision approaches and data driven solutions to support the transition to a net zero-emission industry by 2040.

This competition will close on May 20th at 5pm (UK time) but it is important to note that all Canadian SMEs must register with NRC IRAP by March 6th and submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) to NRC IRAP by March 20th.

Please check this recording from the online briefing event on 11th February to get more clarity on the specific requirements of this bilateral call, which differs from the regular Innovate UK TFP calls.

Finding Collaborators in Canada

IRAP has set up a portal to facilitate finding the right partners in UK/Canada, which is open to both UK and Canadian organisations.

Once registered on the platform, you will be able to post your profile and also download a set of template slides to submit if you are interested in pitching your project idea to the community at one of the “collaboration café” live WebEx sessions.

Please note the date of the first live ‘pitch’ session is Friday February 21st, from 4 to 6pm UK time. The next one will be on Friday March 13th – a week after the deadline by which Canadian SMEs must register with NRC IRAP.
